Ingredients:
- 1 lb pork shoulder or pork belly, thinly sliced
- Marinade:
- 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons Chinese cooking wine
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- For glaze:
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions:
Put all the marinade ingredients in a bowl and stir them together well
Put the pork slices that have been thinly sliced in a bowl or ziplock bag
Pour the marinade over the pork
Make sure the pork has a good coating
Put the mixture in the fridge for at least four hours or overnight
Before you start cooking, heat the oven to 375F 190C
Put the pork slices that have been marinated on skewers or a wire rack set over a baking sheet to catch the juices
Turn the pork over every so often for 25 to 30 minutes in a hot oven until its cooked and has a nice char
For the glaze, mix honey and water in a small bowl while the cake is baking
During the last 10 minutes of baking, brush the glaze on top of the char siu
Let it rest for a few minutes after its done cooking before cutting it up and serving it
